The National Weather Service in Newport has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
Mainland Dare County in eastern North Carolina...
Central Tyrrell County in eastern North Carolina...

* Until 400 PM EDT

* At 229 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.
About 2 to 3 inches of rain have fallen over the last few hours
and an additional 1 to 2 inches will be possible. This additional
rain will result in minor flooding.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Stumpy Point, Gum Neck, Manns Harbor, Manteo, EAST LAKE, BUFFALO
CITY and FRYING PAN LANDING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 6 PM EDT THIS
EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued
a Heat Advisory, which is in effect from noon today to 6 PM EDT
this evening.

* HEAT INDEX VALUES...Up to 106.

* TIMING...From Noon through 6 pm This evening.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged exposure or any activity may lead to heat
related illnesses that require immediate medical attention.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned
room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and
neighbors. Keep pets inside if possible.

Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside.
When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety
and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest
breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome
by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat
stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.

EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect from noon today to 6 PM EDT this
evening.

* TEMPERATURE...Highs today will be in the mid 90s.

* IMPACTS...Heat index values will approach or exceed 105 degrees
over portions of central North Carolina, including the Triangle
region and areas to the south and east.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in
which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in
an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on
relatives and neighbors.

Cars can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes in these
conditions. Never leave children or pets unattaended in a
vehicles, not even for a minute.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening.

* AREAS AFFECTED: Much of Southeastern Virginia and Northeast
North Carolina

* HAZARDS: Dangerously High Heat Indices

* MAXIMUM FORECAST HEAT INDEX VALUES: 103 to 108

* TIMING: Late morning through early this evening

* IMPACTS: Prolonged exposure or any strenuous activity may lead
