Hurricanes in July

Hurricanes in the month of July are very unlikely.  Just take a look at the chart below.

When they do form, the tracks are likely to go one of two ways. And of course, one way ends right along the North Carolina coast.

One hurricane that impacted North Carolina during the month of July was Hurricane Bertha.  This hurricane moved through the area in July of 1996 and made landfall between Wrightsville and Topsail beaches. A record 9 inches of rain fell in Southport, NC and over $21 million in agricultural losses was recorded in Wilson, Wayne, and Johnston counties. This was also the same year the Hurricane Fran went through the area.
