Was July abnormally hot… or was it just us?


Summertime means hot weather… but did July feel hotter than normal?

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City issued 15 heat advisories for the month with 8 of those happening on back-to-back days. We even had one excessive heat warning… the first one in 4 years!

Heat index values soared into the 100’s on many occasions this past month. Here’s how the air temperature ranked by the numbers.

Many inland counties had 90° + days this month.

The monthly temperature takes the average high and average low for the month and averages the two numbers. Overall, many locations were above normal for the month of July.

Technically, for most, the month was hotter than normal, but this does not take into account the heat index. Here’s too a hopefully cooler August!
