What is a backdoor cold front?

You may here the meteorologists talk about a backdoor cold front from time to time. But do you understand what that term means? Typically our weather patterns, here in Eastern North Carolina, (such as cold fronts) approach us from the west and push offshore. With a backdoor cold front, the system moves in from the East onshore. This type of front will push cooler air toward the south and west.
