Man caught on video pleads guilty to kidnapping woman

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man caught on surveillance video grabbing a screaming, struggling woman off a Philadelphia street has pleaded guilty to a federal kidnapping charge.

Delvin Barnes told a judge Thursday that he grabbed 22-year-old Carlesha Freeland-Gaither near a bus stop and forced her into his car last November because he needed travel money.

A massive manhunt ensued and federal agents found the pair three days later in his car in Jessup, Maryland.

The 38-year-old Barnes’ plea agreement calls for a sentence of 35 years in prison.

He also is charged in the abduction of a 16-year-old girl in Virginia in early October.

Barnes allegedly hit her with a shovel and took her to a mobile home where he doused her in bleach and gasoline before she escaped.
