PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona Diamondbacks ace Zack Greinke left the game after two innings against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.
There was no word on what caused his early exit. He allowed one run on four hits.
Greinke drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second, and called the trainer after he went out on the field to start the third. After a conversation with the umpires, Greinke briefly went into the dugout, returned to throw a few practice pitches from the mound, then left the game for good.
Greinke signed a six-year, $206.5 million contract with the Diamondbacks last offseason. He entered the game 10-3 with a 3.61 ERA and was 7-0 in his previous eight starts.
