Surf City accident makes 4 deaths believed caused by winter storm

WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT/WNCN) —  At least four people are believed to have died as the result of the winter storm.

In Surf City, police responded to a report of a submerged vehicle at the end of Broadway Street at 1:45 a.m.

Officers said the vehicle was submerged for some time when they found it.

They retrieved the vehicle from the canal where they found Dax Christopher Baker, 20, of Surf City dead inside.

Detectives believe the winter weather was a contributing factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.

Beaufort County Emergency Services also responded to a fatal accident early Thursday morning.

Authorities believe the accident was caused by the winter weather road conditions.

Authorities responded to the accident at 2:30 a.m. on a rural road north of Washington.

The accident involved a single driver and vehicle.

Another fatal accident in Moore County killed two people.

Authorities said a pickup ran off the road and overturned over a bridge rail, landing on its roof in a creek near Carthage. The two men inside the truck were killed.
