Update: Police say 16-year-old was hurt during Saturday shooting

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Greenville Police are investigating a shooting on Ridge Place.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police are were on scene collecting evidence and  details on the 100 block of Ridge Place, just off of Hooker Rd for a couple of hours.

Police say 16-year-old Tayfield Smith was shot and taken to Vidant Medical Center. Police say his injured appeared to be non-life threatening.

WNCT had crew on scene. The reporter saw at least two people leave the scene in handcuffs, but were told they were not under arrest. Police say they are persons of interest.

Officers are still working on a motive, but at this point do not appear this was a random incident.

Police say the shooting is under investigation.
