Overnight fire destroys Williamston hotel

WILLIAMSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Firefighters spent Wednesday night into Thursday morning battling a massive fire in Williamston.

It happened at the Magnuson Hotel, formerly the Holiday Inn, located at the corner of US-64 Business and US-17.

Williamston, Robersonville and Bear Grass fire departments responded.

According to the Williamston Fire chief, James Peele, the call came in around 9:30 Wednesday evening.

9 On Your Side is told two of the four wings were occupied. The two others were vacant.

Fire crews say the building is a total loss. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Chief Peele says investigators are highly confident the fire started in the electric room.
