Greenville police, barbers meet at 9th annual Inclusive Community Breakfast

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Greenville police officers and local barbers met at the Hilton Thursday for the ninth annual Inclusive Community Breakfast.

It’s apart of the Cops and Barbers initiative geared to help community relations.

GPD Officer Richie Williams is in charge of the program and said it’s an opportunity to help

“The barbershop serves as a pillar in the community,” said Officer Williams. “If you can get the barbers to buy into the program then  it translates down into their customers.”

Local barbers like Tracy Wade of Kampus Kutz appreciate the effort by the police department.

“You have to have the mentality of bridging the gaps and communication,” said Wade. “The only way to be successful is you have to be able to communicate, be able to get along with everyone and teach the youth the right way.”

The concept of Cops and Barbers was first created by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.
