Grifton man dies in wreck on NC 11 North near Ayden-Grifton HS

Emergency crews are on the scene of a wreck on NC Highway 11.

Grifton, N.C. (WNCT) – N.C. State Highway Patrol has confirmed a Grifton man died in a collision on NC 11 North near Ayden-Grifton High School Monday night.

The wreck occurred when a pickup truck with a trailer was rear-ended by a passenger vehicle, causing the truck to flip onto the driver side, Highway Patrol Sgt. Scott Hammonds said.

Jesse Strong, 48, was riding in the passenger seat of the truck that was rear-ended. He died shortly after the accident, Hammonds said.

The driver of the passenger car was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

The driver of the pickup truck was not taken to the hospital. The driver of the passenger vehicle was taken to Vidant Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Multiple emergency crews responded to the wreck, and the road was closed down for several hours.
