New bill would make it illegal to use phone without hand-free device

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCT) – A state lawmaker wants to crack down on drivers using their phones behind the wheel.

It comes years after a teen lost his life behind the wheel nine years ago.

A new bill filed would make it illegal to use your phone without a hands-free device.

The new proposal is called the Brian Garlock Act.

There’s already a ban on texting while driving.
