ECU installs Staton as 11th chancellor

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – East Carolina University is celebrating a new chapter in the school’s history.

The university officially installed Chancellor Cecil Staton as its 11th Chancellor.

The ceremony was attended by Lieutenant Governor Dan Forrest and officials of the UNC system.

During his remarks Chancellor Staton highlighted the school’s economic impact on the east.

He also reinstated his hope to bring more study abroad opportunities to students.

“Our students are going to live in work in a global economy,” said Staton. “I just think about the number of industries even in eastern North Carolina that have their homes in Japan, Germany or Australia so we want to make sure they’re prepared for that world as well.”

The week long celebration ends tonight with a benefit dinner in the Chancellor’s honor.
