2 dead, 3 in hospital after fatal collision in Craven County

VANCEBORO, N.C. (WNCT) – Two children, ages 16 and 4, died in a crash involving a tractor-trailer at the intersection of River Road and Nelson Road Thursday morning according to the Highway Patrol.

Samantha Anderson, 16, and Angel Nichols, 4, both of Dover, died in the collision.

Troopers said the wreck occurred at 10:43 a.m. when a 2016 Toyota passenger car driven by Pamela Tello, 38, failed to yield at a stop sign and was hit by a tractor-trailer traveling westbound.

The tractor-trailer and the car traveled off the roadway, and troopers said the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

There were five people in the car that was hit, including the girl and boy who died. Tello and two other passengers, Sherri Nichols, 40, and Edward Nichols, 4, were transported to Vidant Medical Center.

Troopers are investigating, and no charges have been filed so far.
