Specialists advise toy safety this holiday season

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Thousands of kids and teens end up in the emergency room with toy-related injuries during the holiday season.

To prevent injury, parents need to keep an eye on warning labels.

Injury prevention specialists at Vidant Medical Center said a lot of toys come with small parts that can be dangerous for young children.

Some of the most popular toys aren’t safe for all ages, specialists said.

“The main message is that parents need to pay attention to the labels that are on the products,” said Jennifer Wobbleton, Vidant Medical Center. “They need to be looking at the age recommendation and any warning label or any small parts that may be contained within the toy itself.”

If a bikes is at the top of your child’s christmas list, be sure to buy a helmet to go along with their new wheels.
