BEAUFORT, NC (WNCT)- A local developer has plans to bring a hotel to Beaufort’s waterfront. A convention center and Inn are on the way to Beaufort, bringing with it hundreds of guest rooms and more importantly hundreds of jobs.
What’s now a recreation and hospitality property at the Front Street Village used to be a factory that employed hundreds. That’s until 2015, when it was shut down.
Longtime resident Leonard Safrit said, “The factory that was there was a major part of the community for years and years and years.”
“Today we’re putting those jobs back on that property, maybe even better jobs,” Safrit said.
It’s all thanks to the Olivers, a pair of local developers, and their plan to bring the Inn and Bistro to Beaufort.
The much-anticipated came out at the town’s commissioner meeting on Monday and the news was well received.
Safrit said, “You take property that was not on the tax books at all, and you put this structure on there…that’s how we’re going to get these streets paved and sidewalks done.”
The almost 100,000 square foot facility will be able to seat more than 300 people for a meal. It’ll have more than a hundred guest rooms for visitors.
There will be two separate buildings. One will house the convention center and the other will be full of 133 guest rooms. The space will be able to support weddings and group meetings. The Inn will include an exercise room with a nearby pool and seasonal poolside beverage and food service.
“This comes down to what I love to call my favorite 4 letter word which is jobs,” Bucky Oliver with Front Street Village said.
Construction will begin at the start of the New Year. The project should be finished by spring 2018.
A major branded flag will be announced January 2017.
