ECU baseball signs 5th grader during Team IMPACT draft day

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – East Carolina University’s baseball program held a Draft Day ceremony for a local youngster at Harvey Hall inside the Murphy Center on ECU’s campus.

ECU baseball head coach, Cliff Godwin signed Greenville’s Rhettec Galaska to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday afternoon. Members of the baseball team were in attendance for the press conference as members of the media and team asked Galaska questions.

Rhettec is eleven years old and is a fifth grader at St. Peters Catholic School. He was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2014. He will attend practices and training sessions, in addition to other events with the program as the schedule allows. The team presented Rhettec with an official jersey before closing out the evening posing for pictures.

Team IMPACT is a national organization based in Boston, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team. Team IMPACT children are drafted on to college athletic teams, local to where they live and, in effect, become official members of the team from Draft Day through to Graduation.
