GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Emergency officials responded to a shots fired call around 5 a.m. Sunday along Glendale Court in Greenville.
According to officials, a group of people was gathered at the apartment complex when someone fired several rounds.
Montarious Summerville and his family were woken up suddenly.
He said they heard screaming, then gun shots.
“All I know is, we were sleep and our brother came in there and woke us up talking about they were shooting…they were shooting,” said Summerville.
Upon arrival, first responders found Jeremiah Person, 39, Vernon Bryant, 36, and Regina Reddick, 45, shot. All victims were transported to Vidant Medical Center.
Greenville police said Person and Reddick were treated and released from the hospital but Bryant remains hospitalized.
“All three victims were located inside one of the apartments here, so again we don’t know if any shots took place inside that we will be checking that apartment but at this point it appears the shooting took place outside and they ran inside for help,” said Chief Holtzman.
Greenville police said none of the victims reside in the Glendale neighborhood and detectives do not believe it was a random crime.
Chief Holtzman said this is just the beginning stages of the investigation.
“Crime scene investigators will be processing the crime scene out here photographing, collecting evidence. Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood and officers will also be helping that canvas take place we are in the early stages of this. This is going to take a lot of work to get this case put together and to get some answers for the community,” Holtzman said.
At this time no one is in custody.
