Update: Police arrest Subway stabbing suspect

GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) – Greenville police announced Monday afternoon they had arrested the suspect in connection with a stabbing at Subway after he turned himself in.

Detectives said they identified Kelley Ace Paige as a suspect within several hours of the crime, and they released a photo of the suspect on Monday hoping tips from the community would lead to his arrest.

Detectives said community assistance lead to their issuing an arrest warrant for Paige, and Paige turned himself in around 4 p.m. Monday after facing pressure from both the community and police.

Paige will be charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He is currently going through the booking process at the Pitt County Detention Center.

The stabbing victim, 52-year-old Dinesh Patel of Winterville, is listed in critical condition at Vidant Medical Center. Greenville police originally said Patel was expected to recover.

Greenville police have released the photo of a suspect in the stabbing of a store owner who officers said tried to stop a robbery at his Subway store Sunday evening.

Investigators said officers were called to the store on the 140 block of Greenville Boulevard for an armed robbery just after 7 p.m.


Police said a suspect entered the store with a knife and demanded money from an employee. The store owner tried to intervene when the suspect stabbed them several times, officers said.

The store’s owner, Dinesh Patel, 52, of Winterville, was taken to Vidant Medical Center with serious injuries. He is receiving treatment for multiple stab wounds but is expected to recover, Greenville police said.

Patel and his family own both the Subway and the Mini Mart next door.

Police said another employee was inside the store at the time of the incident; however, she was unharmed.

Detectives are looking at surveillance video and following leads.

Police are investigating an incident that happened outside the Subway at the intersection of Greenville Boulevard and Landmark Street.

The call came in just after 7pm Sunday night.

Greenville Police put up crime scene tape around the Subway and said it’s an active crime scene.
