Wisconsin police dept. allowing people to pay parking fines with food

MENOMONIE, W.I.(WNCT) – A Wisconsin police department is allowing people to pay parking tickets by donating goods to local food banks.

The Menomonie Police Department said people can bring in one item to the food bank to get $2 off their fine, or bring in multiple items to pay off the fine all together.

Officials said it has been working well so far.

“People are all of a sudden way more excited to pay their parking tickets. ‘Cause they can feel like they’re helping people out this holiday season and contributing to a need that’s within our community,” said Brenna Long.

The program continues there until the end of the month.

So far almost $200,000 worth of donations have been collected.
