Pitt Co. middle schoolers clash in robots competition

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – 40 teams of middle schoolers representing seven different Pitt County schools clashed in a robotic competition Saturday.

It was the 4th annual event that has grown over the years into something kids look forward to. Organizers said it is a way to encourage students to learn about and getting involved with STEM education.

During the morning, each team designed and built their own robot before the competition began.

Students representing EB Aycock, Hope Middle School, Chicod, Farmville Middle School, AG Cox, G.R. Whitfield and Ayden Middle School were all on hand.

Those we spoke with said while the competition can be tough, they still love it.

“It’s so fun. I mean you can’t not like it. You’re just competing and winning,” said Chicod 5th grader Landon Elks.

This year, Chicod’s Machine Maniacs were named champions for 12-3.
