ECU brings the ‘Nutcracker’ ballet to children’s hospital

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Kids at the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital received a little holiday cheer today.

Members of the ECU Dance Arts Theatre performed a portion of the Nutcracker ballet.

Kids watched in person or via teleconference for those unable to leave their rooms.

The troupe enacted the classic scene where the Nutcracker comes to life and defeats the evil Mouse King.

Samantha Ayers who depicts Clara says she hopes to bring smiles to the kid’s faces.

“It just gives kids a time whether they’re sick or not to celebrate the holidays and show you what it’s really about like love, good, and family,” Ayers said.

After the performance, some of the kids even got the chance to dance with the artists.
