JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Seniors and those with disabilities can apply to have one of their utility bills paid in Onslow County.
The application process began Thursday and runs through March.
The county received $500,000 in federal aid for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program.
Demand for the program among residents is high.
“Be prepared when you come that it could be a long stay before we get your application taken and just be understanding that that’s the process that we have to go through,” said Heidi Baur, Onslow County Social Services director.
The department averaged about 100 applications per day last year.
The amount of money each person receives is based on their income level and it’s a one-time payout.
Low-income residents can begin applying in January.
