GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A campaign attorney with Hillary Clinton announced Saturday the former presidential nominee would join the Green Party in requesting a recount of ballots in at least one state.
Earlier in the week, Jill Stein, who was the Green Party’s presidential nominee, called on a recount of votes in the state of Wisconsin.
In a statement, Clinton’s attorney said, “now that a recount has been initiated in Wisconsin, we intend to participate in order to ensure the process proceeds in a manner that is fair to all sides.”
Ballot recounts could also be filed in Michigan and Pennsylvania, both states that helped Donald Trump secure the win.
Stein said this is a move that everyone should get behind.
“The point to drive home here is that having a secure elections process benefits us all. And I invite everyone, I invite Donald Trump’s campaign, Hillary’s campaign, we’ve had calls out to Gary Johnson’s campaign, this should be a nonpartisan, people-powered effort to ensure that we can rely on the integrity and the security of our votes,” she said.
President-Elect Trump isn’t supportive of the idea. He called the plan a scam on Twitter.
