Officers will volunteer to patrol all shopping centers in Jacksonville. They will be on the lookout for thieves and shoplifters. Plain clothes officers will also walk through shopping areas.
“Folks get caught up in their shopping and they’ll forget to do things like lock their car or hide their belongings,” Lt. Sean Magill said. “A lot of these people who want to go out and do bad things, they are looking for targets of opportunity.”
Magill offers some tips for shoppers: “If it’s possible, shop with small groups and friends, always be aware of your surroundings, and wait to balance your checkbook, count your money or to check your text messages until you’re in the car and the doors are locked.”
The task force will continue through Christmas. JPD reminds you to report any suspicious activity you see while out shopping, and to remain aware of your surroundings in the parking lot.
