LUMBERTON, N.C. (AP) — State police in North Carolina are investigating after a Lumberton police officer shot and wounded a person at a discount store.

Lumberton Police Chief Michael McNeil told local media outlets it happened late Tuesday afternoon.

The wounded person was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center. The person’s name and condition have not been released.

SBI public information officer Shannon O’Toole said the agency is handling the investigation at the request of Lumberton police.

There’s no word on what led to the shooting.

The officer wasn’t hurt. The race of the officer and suspect were not immediately released.

It was the second recent shooting by a law officer in Lumberton. After severe floods last month, a state trooper shot and killed an angry man who confronted officers while holding a gun.
