Construction delays ahead for Piney Green Road drivers in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Drivers using Piney Green Road in Jacksonville will have to deal with construction delays for the next several months.

The $45 million project was supposed to be completed by October, but weather and design delays have pushed that forward to summer of 2017.

“Right now, we’re coming into the cold weather part of the year and, at some point, we’re going to have to stop a lot of the work we are doing on this road,” said Brian Rick, NCDOT communications. “But we hope to be picking it up in March or April.”

The road improvements are meant to increase traffic capacity and safety while decreasing backups and accidents.

Projects remaining include installing overhead signs, drainage improvements, paving and marking the road.
