Swansboro works to make Municipal Park disability friendly

SWANSBORO, N.C. (WNCT) – The town of Swansboro is working to make Muncipal Park disability friendly by applying for the N.C. Connect grant for kids and veterans with disabilities.

Swansboro Parks and Recreation director Brittany Shipp said the goal is to make the park more accessible regardless of mobility status.

“It’s not even about minimal access anymore,” said Shipper. “It’s the ability to all play together regardless of what your abilities are or are not.”

A splash pad and versatile tennis courts that can also be used for pickup soccer and pick-a-ball are proposed for the site.

The department will present the proposal to the Board of Commissioners Tuesday, and the grant would be awarded in March.
