WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Forsyth County schools are the first to participate in a national education initiative that seeks to bring journalism to students of all ages and examine the intersection of news and art.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports (http://bit.ly/2fjQi86) the schools are the first to participate in NewsArts, a program from the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting in Washington, D.C.
The initiative will work with local educators on creative approaches to storytelling regarding global issues. It will create curriculum and content to be used nationally.
Pulitzer Center executive director Jon Sawyer says education has become an important part of the nonprofit’s mission. When the center started 10 years ago, it provided grants to journalists for in-depth work and underreported issues around the world.
