Police: Man critical after walking into oncoming traffic

BEAUFORT, NC (WNCT)- Police are investigating a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.

The incident occurred Wednesday night just after 6:00, at the intersection of Live Oak Street and Lennoxville Road.

Beaufort Police found 60-year-old Kenneth Carter laying in the roadway, after he was stuck by a vehicle.

Officers say John Rose of Havelock was traveling south on Live Oak Street at the time.

The 37-year-old and other witnesses said Carter walked into oncoming traffic during a heavy traffic period.

Mr. Carter was air lifted to Vidant Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, at last check Wednesday morning his condition is still critical.

There are no pending charges at this time. Traffic accident is still under investigation.
