Fountain EMS, fire department still at odds over shared building

FOUNTAIN, N.C. (WNCT) – The town of Fountain’s emergency medical services and fire department continue to be at odds.

Both departments currently reside in the same building, and they are claiming operational differences, concerns of how space is used and how utility bills are paid.

After numerous attempts to make amends and set aside differences, there has been no luck.

Pitt County Manager Scott Elliott said this is not a normal for a small town, and he hopes they can work out their differences so the county does not have to step in.

“The county can basically back off from any proposals of having to transition the EMS service to a different model, and they can charge on as they’ve been doing for decades in that district,” Elliot said.

There will be a public meeting held Thursday at 7 p.m. between community members and both parties.
