City of Jacksonville to restrict left turns on section of Western Boulevard

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Temporary traffic restrictions off Western Boulevard in Jacksonville will keep residents from making turns out of several businesses.

Due to the new store near Western Boulevard and Forum Road, traffic has increased, forcing the city to restrict left turns out of side streets until a traffic signal can be installed.

“To help mitigate some of the traffic concerns, we are installing a temporary diverter island on Western Boulevard to help prevent the left out from the sports academy site,” said Anthony Prinz, transportation services director. “And that’s just an interim measure until we can put up a full traffic signal.”

Left turns will also be restricted from Forum Road onto Western from Marine Federal Credit Union.

There is a backorder in traffic signal equipment, and a permanent signal is expected to be installed in spring of 2017.
