Washington High students expand services offered by food pantry

WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Students and staff at Washington High School continue to help their fellow Pam Pack members.

Last year, 9OYS talked to students who came up with the idea to have a food pantry at school to help those in need.

The service has grown over the past year, and students can pick up hygiene items and clothes if they need them.

“It’s amazing when the kids come in (and say) ‘I didn’t get a chance to brush my teeth this morning’ and when you talk to them a little bit more, it’s because they didn’t have what they needed to brush their teeth with,” said Jennifer Beach, a school counselor. “It’s very humbling.”

Thanks to community support, the school has enough supplies to help some students and their families with Thanksgiving dinner.
