Belhaven making formal offer to purchase old Pungo Hospital building

BELHAVEN, N.C. (WNCT) – The town of Belhaven announced they will be making a formal offer to purchase the land and property where the old Pungo Hospital sits this week.

The town will offer $500,000 for the building and land to the current owners, Pantego Creek LLC, by Friday.

The offer will request a closing date for the sale within 60 days, with an extension of 30 days if needed.

The offer is also contingent on Pungo Medical Center, who will operate the hospital, clearing the town and Beaufort County from any liability if efforts to run and re-open the hospital fail.

In a statement, a Pungo Medical Center spokesperson stated, “We hope this healing offer for all sides will be accepted. Pungo Medical Center is non-profit that has been created to protect the town from any liability associated with reopening the hospital.”
