GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – After months of delays, Greenville’s first camping platform is almost ready at River Park North.
Hurricane Matthew caused some flooding around the area, which delayed crews from working.
The platform should be completed by the end of November.
After that, crews will work on completing two more platforms near uptown Greenville.
9 On Your Side first reported last year about the plan for three camping platforms on the Tar River in Greenville.
Greenville Recreation and Parks Director Gary Fenton said the project hit some speed bumps along the way but the first platform is expected to be ready by the end of September.
“With parks and recreation, I think we are used to obstacles and delays,” said Gary Fenton, Recreation and Parks Director. “It’s always disappointing but we hang in there and there are many, many years to come that these platforms will be utilized, so when they are done, they are done.”
Fenton said crew will start construction on the platform at River Park North by the end of this week.
The other two platforms should be completed by December.
