Veterans in Jacksonville spend day giving back at charity golf tournament

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Some veterans spent the day dedicated to honoring them giving back to others.

Nearly 100 golfers, some of them veterans, came out to participate in the “Children Healthy Eating on Weekends” golf tournament.

The proceeds from the tournament benefit CHEW. The organization works to feed roughly 5,000 children in the county.

“It’s veteran’s day; it’s a holiday,” said Kyle Simpson, pro golfer. “They could be doing anything else really, but they chose to come out here and play golf and support a good cause. Most of the people out here today are for the kids.”

The golfers played scramble, a game in which the team’s best shot prevailed.

After the golfing ended, there were prizes, raffles and even more fundraising for the kids.
