Young supporter encourages Greenville City Council to consider plastic bag ban

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Greenville City Council is considering limiting and discouraging the use of single use plastic bags in the city. The recommendation was made by the Environmental Advisory Commission after many bags were found polluting area waterways and green spaces.

A young supporter of the ban addressed council during the public comment portion of the meeting, asking them to make this proposal a reality.

“This is an important issue because plastic bags can be harmful to the environment as well as our marine life including sea turtles,” says Jay Un, a 6th grader at Hope Middle School. “I’m asking you to think about my future and demonstrate the political will and courage to put the ‘green’ in Greenville.”

The council is considering all options and plans to discuss those options further.
