Kinston baseball team’s new manager hopes to be part of city’s resurgence

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Professional baseball will return to Kinston in just five months, and the new team’s general manager Wade Howell has already begun selling season tickets and said he believes baseball will provide quite the boom in the east.

“We feel like we can be as much (a part) of the resurgence of Kinston…as a Chef & the Farmer, or something like that,” said Howell.

First pitch at Grainger Stadium is set for Aprill 10th for the Down East Wood Ducks.

The name was announced last week, and a logo for the Wood Ducks will be released later in November.

Howell also said the team will provide jobs to about 50 or 60 new employees per home game.

The Wood Ducks are the Single-A affiliate for the Texas Rangers.

The team is the first professional team in Kinston since 2011.
