2 airlifted to Vidant after head-on collision near Beaufort

BEAUFORT, N.C. (WNCT) – Two people were airlifted to Vidant Medical Center after a head-on collision in Carteret County Wednesday afternoon, state troopers said.

The wreck took place at 12:52 p.m. when a 2000 Toyota Sienna van attempted to pass another car and crashed head-on into a 2004 Cadillac CRX SUV, according to troopers.

Both cars were totaled, and the wreck shut down Highway 101 by Beaufort for about 45 minutes.

The SUV’s driver, 81-year-old Vienne Zabroski of Beaufort, and the van’s driver, 49-year-old James Harbour of Havelock were both airlifted to the hospital.

State troopers said alcohol and drugs were not factors, and everyone was wearing seat belts.
