GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Mary Blount Williams is the new Pitt County School District 3 representative which covers a portion north of the river in Greenville.

She beat out longtime incumbent Billy Peaden and newcomer Herbert Wright.

Williams won by over 40 perfect of the votes. She’s been a member of the Pitt County school board for the last seven years and covered districts one and two until the board downsized from a twelve member board to a nine-member board.

She said she’s blessed to serve parents and students for another four years, “It feels wonderful! It really does feel good. I ran an honest race. I had to go on my work and I have to depend on my friends and family but we got it done.”

Williams hopes to tackle making it easier for first time Pitt County students, help better the out of school suspension rate between African-American students and white students and wants to increase the student graduation rate.
