JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – For campaign volunteers, Election Day marks the end of weeks of standing outside of polling locations, canvassing and calling voters.
In Onslow County, dozens of volunteers have made the rounds in Onslow County to voting sites and campaign volunteers like Christine Lee said Election Day is a momentous occasion.
“I am enjoying it,” said Lee. “I feel like I am part of the democratic process of the United States of America. Even though it’s my little piece in North Carolina in Onslow County, this is what I’m about.”
As the clock winds down on his time spent volunteering this election season, campaign volunteer James Huskey said there is only one thing he hopes they take away from the experience.
“There’s a lot of good people that come out,” said Huskey. “Some of them are ready; some of them aren’t ready. But hopefully, when they come out we’ll have an influence on them.”
It seems as if more volunteers have been out at the polls across the county Tuesday than during the past two weeks, making that final push to help voters decide.
But that doesn’t mean the volunteers aren’t ready for the election to be over.
“Tomorrow, I’ll look forward to not seeing any more candidate commercials on TV for hopefully a very long time,” one volunteer said.
