Kings BBQ reopens one month after Matthew

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – One month after Hurricane Matthew hit, Kinston staple Kings BBQ has reopened.

Hurricane Matthew dumped over 28 inches of water in the building, but Tuesday afternoon, customers packed the restaurant for the first time in a month.

Customers enjoyed the buffet with plenty of BBQ and dessert.

Kings general manager Barbara Goding said it was devastating to see all the damage, but she’s glad to welcome customers back.

“It was hard, and there was a lot of clean-up to do of the equipment, the building (and) the floors,” Goding said. “It was a mess, but everything is clean now, from top to bottom.”

The banquet room at Kings is expected to open Friday.
