Kinston police investigating two weekend purse snatchings at gunpoint

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Police in Kinston are investigating two reported purse snatchings at gunpoint this weekend.

Both happened Saturday within about 10 minutes of one another.

The first happened on West Road just before 9 p.m. when two victims, both 68, arrived home. That’s when a black male ran up the driveway and into the home, armed with a handgun. He demanded the woman’s purse and then fled the scene north on West Road.

Nearly fifteen minutes later, officers responded to a call to residence on Michelle Drive, where a 77-year-old woman was approached by a black male at gunpoint who demanded her purse. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black pants. He fled the area in a vehicle parked down the street. The victim in the incident received a scrape to her left ankle but required no medical treatment.

Both incidents are still under investigation.  If you have any information about the incidents, you’re asked to call the Kinston Police Dept. at 252-939-3160, the TIPS LINE at 252-939-4020 or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers at 252-523-4444.
