Three former correctional officers accused of smuggling cell phone into prison

WINDSOR, NC (WNCT) – Three former Department of Public Safety correctional officers are accused of smuggling a cell phone into Bertie Correctional Institution.

Windsor Police Chief Todd Lane told WNCT all three former employees are suspected of playing a role in transporting a cell phone into the prison.

One inmate is also charged with Felony Conspiracy. That inmate was transported to another facility.

Windsor Police said the incident is still under investigation.
