KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A Lenoir County staple, the popular King’s BBQ Restaurant in Kinston has partially re-opened a month after Hurricane Matthew.
“I missed it,” said Zane Rogers, a customer. “I’m glad they are back open now.”
Rogers said he has been a frequent customer at Kings BBQ for the past 30 years.
“When we go to the beach, we will stop by here and get BBQ and stuff and that’s our routine,” Rogers said. “We do that every time.”
Kings is only open for take-out orders while repairs are still underway in the dining and banquet areas.
Owner Joseph Hargitt said work has not stopped since October 18.
“The biggest challenge we had was drying the building out,” Hargitt said.
Hargitt said he had to follow a 44-page manual on how to do everything correctly.
“We had the health department here four different times just in the process of opening, and I had to make sure that we were doing everything the correct way, said Hargitt.
Rogers said he’s just glad things are getting back to normal so he can get the food he’s been craving.
“We got us a pack of ribs — if you go anywhere else you pay 20 dollars — and we got them for six,” Rogers said.
Hargitt said he hopes to open the dining section by Tuesday morning.
