Onslow Co. dog rescued from river up for adoption

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – An Onslow County dog recently rescued from a river is now up for adoption.

The dog was trapped by his collar in the New River for an unknown amount of time before Onslow County Animal Service officers borrowed a neighbor’s boat and rescued him.

Animal control officers said the water was between two and three feet deep, and it appeared the dog was able to stand on a rock to keep from drowning.

“I would think that he got loose from a backyard and just started walking through the water and unfortunately got stuck,” said Tyler Halfhill, animal control officer. “The dog is in good shape. He’s very healthy and a very friendly dog.”

The dog’s collar had no tags and no one has come forward to claim him.
