Gov. McCrory: Pitt County man dies during Hurricane Matthew clean-up

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCT) – Gov. Pat McCrory said a Pitt County man had died due to injuries sustained cleaning up storm debris from Hurricane Matthew.

The death brings the total number of Hurricane Matthew-related deaths in North Carolina to 28.

The governor announced the death at a news conference in Raleigh Wednesday where he gave updates on the recovery effort.

He said a request for federal direct temporary housing assistance was approved for residents of Columbus, Edgecombe, Robeson and Wayne counties, and the state’s goal is to add additional counties.

Those counties the governor is seeking approval of for additional assistance for are: Carteret, Perquimans, Scotland, Richmond, Anson, Chatham and Northampton counties.
