Farmville PD not shaving to raise prostate cancer awareness

FARMVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Tuesday started No Shave November.

Do you know why people do it?

Officers with the Farmville Police Departments started not shaving last month to raise awareness of prostate cancer.

Chief Donnie Green said his officers came up with the idea last year and raised over a thousand dollars. The deal is if an officer wants a beard, they have to pay $5 a week.

Chief Green said it shows other men that it’s important to get annual checkups.

“Showing that we are doing that and everyone knows, if you catch it early enough, prostate cancer is very treatable and it’s important to have the awareness out there,” explained Chief Donnie Green, Farmville Police.

The No Shaving November doesn’t stop at the end of the month for the officers, they are extending it until March.

All the money goes to Farmville’s Relay For Life.
