Pitt Co. Sheriff’s Office lets public information officer go

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office has let its public information officer go.

It’s been almost three months since a Pitt County judge said that Christy Wallace failed to comply with a “no contact” order for jurors in a capital murder case. The infraction happened during the trial of Antwan Anthony. That’s when at least one juror overheard improper comments from Wallace while it was still underway.

The Sheriff’s Office said Wallace had been on medical leave since a hearing in August which determined that Anthony wouldn’t be granted a new trial.
Judge Robert Hobgood left it up to Sheriff Neil Elks to decide on what action to take against Wallace for violating the court’s order.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said Wallace was fired Monday. She’s been the public information officer since Elks was elected as sheriff.
