GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The March to the Poll’s made its way to Pitt County Sunday.
Dozens gathered to support the march to the polls. Many said it’s a privilege to be able to come out together and make a difference in the community.”
But these marchers call it the souls to the polls.
Marques Thompson said voting is sacred to him.
“On Sunday we get together and we talk about what’s important and we put voting right in the midst of that right in with our relationship to God. The relationship with our community and voting is just another expression of our voice being heard,” said Thompson
Members of the NAACP as well as local candidates, gathered to share what is most important to them on the ballots.
Many said education is at the top of their concerns.
Pitt county NAACP President Calvin Henderson said it’s important to voice your opinion.
Henderson told 9 On Your side, “If there is something that you are complaining about, something that you are not pleased with an elected official, whatever the case might be.” He added, “Now is the time that you can do something about it.”
Thompson says this brings people from all walks of life together and puts everyone on equal terms.
Other NAACP leaders say this is a great opportunity to help educate the youth for when it’s their time to vote.
